School Board Elections

The Somerset School District Board members are elected to a three-year term of office on a rotating basis of 2-2-3. Board seats are filled during elections held on the first Tuesday in April, and there will be two seats open for this election. All Board members are residents of the Somerset School District. On or before the fourth Monday in April, elected Board members take the oath of office.

Spring Primary Election: Tuesday, February 18

When a Primary Election is Required:

The school board shall require a primary election if there are more than twice as many candidates as there are members to be elected to an unnumbered school board of more than 3 members.

(There are 2 seats up for election, once there are 5 or more candidates who have submitted paperwork a primary must be held)

Spring Election : Tuesday, April 1

Notice of Non-Candidacy

The 2021 Wisconsin Act 33 created requirements for filing officers to publicly notice when an incumbent files a Notification of Non-Candidacy with their office or if an incumbent fails to file a Declaration of Candidacy by the filing deadline.

Deadline for incumbents filing non-candidacy paperwork is 5:00 PM on Friday, December 27.

Guide for Candidates: The Wisconsin Association of School Board (WASB) provides dates regarding the election and general information about school boards.

School district electors who are interested in becoming candidates for school board at the spring election need to complete the Declaration of Candidacy and Campaign Registration Statement and return to the District Office located at 639 Sunrise Drive, Somerset, WI 54025. 

All documents are due by Tuesday, January 7, 2025 no later than 5:00 PM.

Once documents are submitted, the candidates name will appear on the ballot regardless of any future changes.

  • January 14: Drawing of Lots for Ballot Order (The order of names presented on the ballot)

  • February 14: If a Primary is required, Write-In Candidate Registration Deadline (12 PM)

  • On or about February 20 - 28: If a Primary occured - Second Drawing of Lots for Ballot Order (The order of names presented on the ballot)

  • March 28: Write-In Candidate Registration Deadline for Spring Election (12 PM)
