Food Service

Eat learn Live

Food for Thought is a community-supported, donation-funded program. Meal costs are covered for students in need to ensure that no child has deficits in learning due to hunger. Individuals or organizations who are interested in making tax-deductible donations to the program or toward negative food service balances may make a check payable to Somerset School District.

Questions about donations to the food service program can be directed to Michelle Mahler at mmahler@somerset.k12.wi.us.

Student Food Service

The Food Service Program is a self-sustaining program that requires all users to have a positive balance in their accounts. Somerset School District participates in the National School Lunch Program that provides nutritionally balanced lunches to children each school day.

Applications for free and reduced meals are available prior to the start of each school year. The National School Lunch Program requires families to apply for assistance on an annual basis. Students eligible for free or reduced meals could incur charges for their portion of reduced priced meals or ala carte items such as additional milk or an extra entree.

Parents/guardians have access to all food service information, including balances, transactions, and payment options through Infinite Campus.

Our school building offices are equipped to receive check or cash deposits. Mailed payments should be sent to P.O. Box 100, Somerset, WI 54020. Online payments are made through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Infinite Campus login and password assistance is available through your student's school building secretary.

HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU DEPOSIT INTO YOUR FOOD SERVICE ACCOUNT?

Campus app

It can be difficult to estimate the amount of money that needs to be deposited into the food service account to cover student meals. A link to a cost estimating tool for the school year is available by clicking on the green calculator icon to the right. To find the appropriate amount of deposit that will cover your family's needs, simply clear the white boxes and enter the data that is relevant for your family. Families can also find the average monthly food service account use by visiting the Food Service tab through the Parent Portal.

Since food service accounts are designed to be draw-down accounts whereby monies are to be deposited prior to meals being served, this tool provides assistance determining the amount needed for students to eat school meals for a period of time (weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc.). Accounts with a balance of at least $15 are exempt from the low-account-balance notifications.

Sign up to receive Food Service Balance push notifications on your mobile device via the Infinite Campus Mobile App. Watch this short video for more information.

Parents may sign up for recurring payments. This can be a set amount on a particular date each month, or it can be set to deposit funds when the balance reaches a set amount (suggestion: $20 threshold to avoid reminder calls that begin when the account balance reaches $15).

Families are encouraged to complete an online application instead of a paper application. The online application* has the same requirements and will ask for the same information as the paper application. For your convenience, the application is available via Campus Parent - Click on "More" on the left, then click on Meal Benefits. Contact Rod Hawkins at (715) 247-3313, Ext. 504 or email at rhawkins@somerset.k12.wi.us if you have any questions about the online application.

*Note: On the income page of the application, after the amount earned is entered, click on any other box and then return to the dropdown box to choose the appropriate payment frequency.
