What is a Mental Health Coordinator?

The Mental Health Coordinator does just that - they coordinate our school based mental health services and help refer students and families to mental health resources outside of the school district. The Mental Health Coordinator can offer support to your child by modeling and teaching skills such as coping skills, social skills, emotional regulation techniques, etc. They also work to help students build skills to manage their emotions and behaviors. The Mental Health Coordinator is constantly working to bring more mental health resources and supports to the Somerset School District.

Your Mental Health Coordinator Can Help:

  • Students who need assistance getting connected with therapy services outside or through our school-based therapy program

  • Parents and Students who need crisis response services.

  • Students who need help with learning coping skills for emotional regulation, soft skills such as organization, study skills, etc and social skills such as advocating for self, conflict resolution, flexible thinking, etc.

  • Parents and Students who need help navigating county resources for any of the following or more: Insurance, Food Share programs, CCS, CLTS, etc.

  • Students who need help scheduling a time for virtual therapy appointments through their outside providers.

  • Families who need resources for clothing, hygiene products, food and other essential items.

  • Assisting families who are experiencing homelessness access the resources and supports they are entitled to under the McKinney-Vento Act.

  • Students and Parents who need any mental health related resources such as support groups for students or parents, mentoring programs, etc.

  • If you are a mental health practitioner interested in working in the schools, I would love to discuss options with you.
